Vonekham “Vonni” Guthrie has been named the Director of Development and Public Relations for the Epilepsy Foundation of Long Island (EFLI). Guthrie brings a unique perspective to her new role at EFLI with a broad range of experience including program development and implementation; strategic planning and board development; corporate giving and foundation management; public relations and marketing and, of course, a strong background in fundraising and development.
“I am very excited about joining the team at EFLI” says Vonni. “This agency does tremendous work that is continuously centered and responsive to the needs of the consumer.”
Guthrie’s career in the non-profit industry spans over a decade and began in higher education at Columbia University. She has held roles of increasing responsibility at a number of well-known agencies including North Shore LIJ Health System, Young Women’s Christian Association, and the Institute for Student Achievement. Guthrie teaches at local venues and has taught grant writing through the CUNY system. She is the author of “Moving Beyond H.E.R.E!” a book that focuses on leadership and transition and a sought after motivational speaker.
She is currently completing her MPA thesis at Long Island University – CW Post and earned her BA in English Literature and Creative Writing at Columbia University.
"I don't know which is more impressive: reading Vonni's life history or experiencing the excitement of listening to Vonni talk about her ideas for making new friends for EFLI. I do know one thing. We are very lucky that Vonni Guthrie has joined our team. It feels like we've just signed Michael Jordan." said Tom Hopkins, EFLI Executive Director.
