Dr. Thomas McGloin, Assistant Director for Residential Services for The Guild for Exceptional Children, Inc. has announced his retirement after 30 years of dedicated service to the agency.  Paul Cassone, Executive Director/CEO and the Guild’s Board of Directors join with the hundreds of staff, consumers and families at the Guild in thanking Dr. McGloin for his tireless commitment to the development and enhancement of services for individuals with developmental disabilities in the Bay Ridge community.

McGloin came to the Guild for Exceptional Children, Inc. as Residence Director in October of 1981 when the Guild was a small Agency with just three group homes. Since then, under Dr. McGloin’s leadership, 10 additional 24 hour supervised residences and 4 supportive apartments have been opened under the auspices of the Guild.  A staff of 35 has grown to a staff of almost 400.

Prior to joining the Guild, McGloin worked at U.C.P., New York City from 1979 to 1981, serving people with cerebral palsy.

Earlier in career McGloin had entered the priesthood, serving in a variety of positions, including as Pastor of St. Catherine of Sienna Parish in St. Albans Queens and Retreat Master for Army and Navy Chaplains in Japan and Korea in 1972 and in Germany 1973.

McGloin earned his bachelors degree from Cathedral College and advanced degrees from Catholic University and St. John’s University.  In 1975, he earned his Doctorate from New York University.
