Peter Pierri has been appointed Executive Director of the InterAgency Council of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities Agencies.  Pierri comes to IAC from the Developmental Disabilities Institute (DDI), a leading provider of services for children and adults with autism and other developmental disabiliteis on Long Island, where he served as Executive Director since 2001.

Since 2001, DDI has expanded its day and residential training services, created greater social and cultural opportunities for the individuals served and continues to educate the public, communities and government officials about the important work at DDI.  In his leadership role at DDI, Pierri has overseen 1,600 employees providing services to over 1,500 children and adults with autism and other developmental disabilities with services including infant, preschool and school age education, adult and children’s residences, adult day and vocational services, as well as four separate outpatient health care clinics.

“Peter’s dedication and commitment to our children and adults we serve, our staff and families has been truly inspiring,” said Interim DDI Executive Director John Lessard.  “His contributions to DDI are endless and we thank him for his tireless efforts.”

”I’ve been extremely fortunate to have the opportunity to work in an organization that strives every day to do more than seems possible in support of the 1,500 children and adults with autism and other developmental disabilities we serve on a daily basis,” states Pierri.  “Although I am saddened to leave, I know that DDI is in good hands.”
