Svein Jorgensen has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of Praxis Housing Initiatives, Inc., Praxis provides transitional housing and supportive services primarily to chronically homeless individuals with HIV/AIDS. “The Board of Directors felt it was important to promote from within as this is a key value for the agency,” said Praxis Chairperson Steve Warren. “Svein has been an integral, essential part of Praxis for the past twelve years. His proven dedication to our clients and staff made him the ideal person to take on the role of CEO.” Jorgensen started with Praxis in 1996 and since then he has held the following positions: Director of Operations, Chief Operating Officer, and in February 2009 he was appointed Acting Executive Director. Throughout his tenure at Praxis, Jorgensen has supervised site managers and oversaw compliance throughout all Praxis facilities. Jorgensen is currently spearheading the purchase of the Lincoln Hotel in Brooklyn, the first Praxis-owned site for transitional housing. Recently Praxis was awarded the NY/NY III grant by the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene for permanent supportive housing. Jorgensen has been leading the effort to identify land and develop a 40-unit building which will be the first Praxis-owned permanent supportive housing site. Jorgensen was born in Norway and raised in Ireland. He immigrated to the US in 1986. Prior to joining Praxis, he managed the Martha Washington Hotel, a 451 room hotel in midtown Manhattan where he had responsibility for operations with a budget of $3 million.� |
