More than 1,000 participants turned out for the Ninth Annual New York State Supportive Housing Conference, sponsored by the Supportive Housing Network of New York, on June 9th. Highlights of the day included a keynote plenary session featuring Commissioners Michael Hogan (NYS OMH), David Hansell (NYS OTADA), Robert Doar (NYC HRA) and Robert Hess (NYC DHS) in which Commissioner Hansell announces $80 million in funding for housing and the fact that OTDA will move to a rolling RFP process. “The Network is fortunate to be at the epicenter of a brilliant and extraordinarily effective community of providers, developers, government agencies and funders,” said Network Executive Director Ted Houghton. “Together, we’re making real, tangible progress reducing homelessness, and, more importantly, getting vulnerable people into good homes that allow them to live rewarding lives. It’s humbling to look out at the sea of people assembled here each year – we only hope the conference moves the already-exciting conversation forward. Other highlights included panels on Housing Policy in the Obama Era, programs for veterans, Housing Court as a last resort and dealing with the media. |
