| CAB Nets $138K at Annual Benefit |

Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) has announced that its 2009 Annual Benefit: Building a Better Bronx Through Partnerships and Planning, was its most successful yet, netting a record $138,000. The event was held Thursday, May 14 at the Bronx Museum of the Arts. Over 150 persons were in attendance.Dr. Dolores M. Fernandez, President of Eugenio Maria dos Hostos Community College, and Joseph Byrne, the Project Executive at Turner Construction Company who oversaw the construction of the new Yankee Stadium, were the honorees. They were presented with original artwork by Bronx-based artists affiliated with the Artisans Project of the Bronx Council of the Arts, Ms. Lisa Curran and Ms. Star Nigro. Mr. Derek Woods, the host of the Bronx Magazine on Bronx Net television and the producer of several other cable TV programs, was the MC. Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz, Jr. was on hand to greet the crowd. He praised CAB for its work on behalf of low-income communities. “When my office and those of other elected officials receive calls from constituents, the Citizens Advice Bureau is one of the organizations to whom we make referrals,” he said. “CAB has an excellent track record and is committed to improving the wellbeing being of people and families in need.” “Each year CAB seeks to single out to honor at the event Bronx residents who have contributed significantly to the betterment of the community and building our future,” commented Carolyn McLaughlin, CAB’s executive director. “Dr. Fernandez and Mr. Byrne epitomize those traits.” “The generosity of benefactors this year is particularly gratifying in a period of economic uncertainty,” noted Ken Small, CAB’s Development Director.� |
