Comptroller Offers Information Resources for Nonprofits PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 27 April 2010 09:29

New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli has announced a new section of his Your Money New York Web site that provides nonprofit organizations and New Yorkers interested in starting a nonprofit with the essential resources needed to create and support their communities more effectively. The new section offers access to reliable information on how to start a 501c3, how to deal with tax and labor issues, and finding grants and other financial assistance.

DiNapoli launched the site at the Bronx Forum Financial Education Summit held at Hostos Community College in the Bronx. DiNapoli’s office partnered with Bronx Borough President Rubin Diaz Jr.’s Office, Hostos Community College, and the Jewish Community Relations Council of NY/CAUSE-NY to host the event.

“Nonprofit organizations are vital to New York, not only for the services they provide but for the jobs they create,” DiNapoli said. “There are more than 24,000 nonprofits in New York with revenues of $133 billion and nearly 1.2 million employees, about 17 percent of the State’s workforce. Everyday, nonprofits help New Yorkers in every corner of the state and we need to do a better job of supporting these valuable community organizations. This new section of Your Money New York is a great start.”

The new nonprofit section at Your Money New York has a wide range of information suitable for nonprofit providers in all stages of development. Individuals already working on initiatives to help their communities can begin the process of becoming a legal 501c3 by finding out information on subjects such as what is a nonprofit corporation, how to form a nonprofit corporation, and what special responsibilities exist associated with forming nonprofit corporations.

The new section of Your Money New York also provides access to information from federal, State and local government resources, including:

  • General Resources about Nonprofits
  • Lobbying and Prompt Contracting
  • Working with Employees and Volunteers
  • Nonprofits looking for support in New York City
  • Nonprofits looking for support in New York State
  • Fundraising Help
