Pal-O-Mine Equestrian, a nonprofit therapeutic horseback riding organization dedicated to helping individuals with disabilities, has been awarded a $200,000 Capital Improvements Grant from New York State Sen. Brian X. Foley (D-Blue Point). The grant will fully fund the construction of an administrative office building as well as help to fund the construction of a Therapeutic Wellness Center on the organization’s 8-acre property. Through this grant, Pal-O-Mine will be able to increase the number of students it serves per week this year from 300 to 400.
“This is such an amazing opportunity for Pal-O-Mine,” said Founder and Executive Director Lisa Gatti. “This funding will simultaneously allow Pal-O-Mine to expand both programmatically as well as administratively. By January 2011, we will greatly increase the number of individuals served while efficiently and effectively enhancing our administrative capacity."
Pal-O-Mine, whose employees have spent that last 15 years working out of construction trailers and makeshift office spaces, will soon have a brand new administrative office building, scheduled to open this fall. The administrative office building will be 20x72 ft and will include a therapy room and indoor viewing room for parents of children with disabilities to watch their children in a comfortable atmosphere.
Additionally, the Therapeutic Wellness Center, which Pal-O-Mine hopes to open by January 2011, will be 60x100 ft with two classrooms and an indoor riding arena, allowing students to attend Pal-O-Mine all year long. It will provide students with comprehensive rehabilitative services, including mental health therapy, physical therapy, and occupational therapy in a professional and confidential atmosphere. Donations for this project are currently being accepted and sponsorship opportunities are available.
