Wednesday, 08 June 2011 09:27

Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens celebrated the opening of its two new WIC Programs in Woodside and Jamaica, Queens with commemorative ribbon-cutting ceremony yesterday.  Through the two new WIC programs, Catholic Charities is improving the nutrition and health of 1,800 women and children. (The WIC programs located in Woodside opened in January 2011 and the Jamaica location opened in May 2010.)

The Federal Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC), funded and administered by the Food and Nutrition Service of the US Department of Agriculture in partnership with states and local agencies, assists pregnant women and families with young children and provides nutrition education, vouchers for nutritious foods, breastfeeding support, information and referrals to other health and social services.
